VALENTINE’S DAY SECRET

February 13, I rush inside the supermarket like all the other procrastinators.

I grab the biggest box of chocolates, a huge teddy bear, and a dozen roses.

I rush to the express lane, and get behind an old man.

He turns and smiles. “Why don’t you got ahead. I’m in no hurry.”

“Thanks,” I say. “I need to get home before my wife and hide this stuff for tomorrow.”

“Valentine’s Day…” he laughs.

“Yeah, I’ve been in the dog house lately. I need to score some major points.”

“Well, from the looks of all that stuff, I’d say you’ll score a handful of points.”

“A handful,” I say. “I’ve got to score major points.”

“But you won’t,” he says. “What you’re doing is fine, but your doing it because you feel obligated to…being Valentine’s and all. There’s a secret to scoring major points. Few young guys know it.  Would you like to know what it is?”

“I’m all ears.”

“Do everything you’re doing right now, only do it in August, far from any holiday, birthday or anniversary. When she asks you why, say ‘It’s because I love you’. Take it from me, that’s how you score major points.
